Xchanging wins payroll deal within the NHS

Xchanging, the business process outsourcing company, announced today it has signed a new contract with Northern Devon NHS Trust to provide payroll services to 4,000 NHS employees for the next five years.
This deal represents a decisive step in the development of Xchanging’s public-private business partnership with University Hospital Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB). Established in September 2006, the partnership serves over 10% of all NHS Trusts across the UK.
Xchanging’s partnership with UHB came from an NHS prerogative to drive change, reduce costs and free up resource for front line clinical care. The mechanism for this is the roll out of a national human resources management system, Electronic Staff Record (ESR).
The partnership, named HR Business Services, brings together Xchanging’s private sector business processing expertise and UHB’s deep knowledge of the NHS to help trusts realise the benefits of ESR. The vision is to build a flourishing HR and Payroll services partnership that transforms support services in the NHS to create value for frontline clinical service.
Northern Devon NHS Trust recognise the expertise that the partnership can bring. The Trust benefits from a new, five year service agreement at a defined price, which is aligned with UHB processes designed around ESR. These processes enable Xchanging to deliver the payroll and HR service more efficiently, and realise the benefits of investment in service, technology, process improvement, training and development.
