Frankfurt - 17 March 2008 – Xchanging, the fast-growing, international pure play business process outsourcing company, continues to sponsor the world’s most popular rowing race for the next five years (sponsorship began in 2005). On 29 March, two of the world’s best known universities, Oxford and Cambridge, will fight out the 154th Boat Race on the 6.7 kilometre course on the river Thames between Putney and Mortlake.
David Andrews, founder and CEO of Xchanging, commenting on the Boat Race said, ‘It is all about perseverance, intense training and teamwork. Xchanging has had to forge similar characteristics to get where it is today.’ In just nine years, Xchanging has grown from nothing to over 4,000 people in seven countries, providing processing services for blue-chip customers in 34 countries. The Race’s profile continues to grow internationally in line with Xchanging’s own recognition in the global market place.
Dating back to 1829, the annual duel between the two universities has become one of the most important international sporting events. The Boat Race attracts around 250,000 spectators along the banks of the river Thames. Around 120 million people watch the race on TV in 110 countries world wide. David Andrews said: ‘For me, this historic event, more than any other, captures the extremities of emotion that follow success and failure in sport and business – unbridled elation or bitter disappointment. Xchanging operates in a similarly uncompromising business landscape where the winner takes all - there are no prizes for second place!’
German oarsman Jan Herzog to row for Oxford
As in previous years, a German rower has been selected to row for one of the crews: Jan Herzog of Wannsee Berlin’s rowing club will be rowing in the Oxford boat.
The German international rower is studying Diagnostic Imaging at St Catherine’s College. Jan previously completed a Medicine degree at Humboldt University and has since had three years of surgical training. Jan played seven years of competitive football before taking up rowing in 1988. At the World Championships, he won a bronze medal in the Lightweight Men’s Four in 1997, came 10th in the Men’s Eight in 1999, finished 7th in 2001 in the Men’s Coxless Pair and then replicated this position in 2005. He won the Grand Challenge Cup 1999 and claimed 11 national titles between 1992 and 2005 in various boats. On the Olympic stage, Jan came 10th in Sydney in 2000 in the Men’s coxless Four and then 6th in Athens in the Men’s coxless Pair.
