Xchanging Opens New 'SpaceTime' Office at Lloyd's of London
01 Feb 2002
February 2002 - The first SpaceTime office installation for Xchanging is now open on Gallery 6 at the Lloyd's building in Lime Street, London. SpaceTime - the space you need for the time you need it - establishes the spatial demand of major organisations, and promotes a non-territorial office environment or office 'hotel' where staff can simply plug into a vacant workstation. Over 100 staff are now working in this leading-edge office environment.
Environment Practice Director Andrew Chadwick has introduced this new office environment to the Lloyd's building. Chadwick, in addition to his key role with Xchanging, is principal of Chadwick International, one of the world's leading edge companies in work-space techniques.
The concept is not new to David Andrews, CEO of Xchanging, who appointed Andrew Chadwick to create the first office "hotel" in the world at Georges V, Paris in 1996, for the then Andersen Consulting. "I used to think buildings were neutral but after the George V experience, I realised that they can create a very positive environment. I am very excited about the possibilities inherent in Gallery 6. The SpaceTime scheme, devised by Chadwick, supports our business ambition to create a cost controlled, dynamic, outward looking business."
In November, Lloyd's of London and Xchanging, the UK's leading business process outsourcing company, completed the formation of Xchanging Claims Services to commercialise the Lloyd's claims handling process in a deal worth over £100 million over 10 years.
Xchanging Claims Services offers a range of comprehensive claims management services, including all marine, non-marine and aviation claims, on a commercial basis. The objective for the new company is to become a world-class provider of a full range of claims services and outsourced claims management to insurance market participants world-wide. Earlier in January, Xchanging Claims Services was awarded its first major contract - to manage claims on behalf of Ascot Underwriting Limited, a new Lloyd's Managing Agency whose sole syndicate is backed by a facility from AIG Inc. of £100m.
"The SpaceTime design is a highly practical and flexible solution", says Clive Buesnel Managing Director of Xchanging Claims Services. "We expect to attract the market to our new way of working".
The Espace Lumiere, a circular glass room in the middle of the huge 'combination space' reception area will host not only Claims Services meetings, but the Board Meetings of Xchanging itself. "We want to demonstrate our commitment to transparency and openness", says Chris Main, Xchanging Claims Services Operations Director.
The installation took 10 weeks to build and was occupied before completion.
