Sir Matthew Pinsent hosted the ultimate corporate challenge at Dorney Lake, Windsor on Sunday 10 July 2005.
The Sir Matthew Pinsent Corporate Regatta challenges companies to enter crews in a ‘Men’s’ or ‘Open’ coxed four competition, with the ‘Open’ category consisting of at least two women. The only pre-requisite for the event is that competitors cannot have rowed in an ARA sanctioned event before. After only four 90-minute water-based training sessions, the crews took to the water with the competitive spirit normally shown by elite athletes!
After a morning of intense competition in the heats and the semi-finals the Daikin crew took Gold over Silver medallists Insureyourmotor.com 2 in the final of the Men’s category. Insureyourmotor.com 1 settled for bronze medal with Arrow Shipbrokers just missing out on a medal position.
The Open category with 24 crews was extremely strong. The winners from Xchanging outclassed the London Metal Exchange crew who struggled in the hot conditions, coming second. Another Xchanging boat came third.
Sir Matthew commented, “All of the crews rose to the challenge of this event, and the performances on the water showed the value of teamwork in this sport as well as the corporate arena. Dorney Lake has proven yet again that it is the perfect venue for the 2012 Olympic rowing with fantastic facilities both on and off the water. After the passion shown by the crews here today I hope to hold the event again in 2006.”
