Chancellor names CUBC's new boat for the 2009 Boat Race

On Thursday 12th February the new Empacher shell in which the Blue Boat will row the Boat Race was named "The 800th" by His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh, K.G., K.T., Chancellor of the University of Cambridge.

The boat-naming was the Chancellor’s first engagement after a period of recovery from a recent back injury. During his day in Cambridge, he moved on from Goldie boathouse to the railway station where he named a train, also in recognition of the 800th anniversary of the founding of the University, and he also visited Christ’s College. Following the Chancellor’s departure, the 2009 Boat Race Squad, Old Blues, committee members, friends, family and guests enjoyed an Open Morning at the Goldie.
