"This historic event captures the extremes of emotion that follow success and failure in sport and business – unbridled elation or bitter disappointment" David Andrews.

On the 13th March Cambridge were defeated by a strong and very experienced Leander eight on the tideway.
Str - Tommy Burton
Cox - Phelan Hill
Off the start In the first piece, Cambridge took an early lead against the Leander Boat (containing five Olympic medallists). After this rapid start the Light Blues were up by almost a length at the Milepost. However, Leander, stroked by Tommy Burton, crept back on the Surrey Bend and were level by Hammersmith Bridge. Leander then pulled away into the headwind and Cambridge crabbed on the bow side in the rough water. The Leander squad finished two lengths up by the end of the race at Chiswick Steps. Cambridge Head Coach Chris Nilsson stated that he was pleased with the Light Blue’s performance considering the strength of opposing crew.
